What can I put in my blue recycling cart?

Your blue cart is for mixed recyclables like paper, tin cans, and plastic jugs. Check out this handy flyer for a visual guide. You might want to print it out and hang it near your recycling container for easy reference!

What can I put in my red recycling box?

Your red recycling box is for glass and certain liquid recyclables that need to stay out of the big blue cart for safety reasons. Here’s what goes in:

  • Clean, unbroken glass bottles and jars with no lids (but no need to remove labels).
  • Used motor oil. Put it inside a one-gallon plastic jug sealed with a screw-on lid. You can place up to two gallons in your box.
  • Useable latex paint in non-rusted cans; please make sure lids are on tight and there are no leaks. You can place up to two gallons in your box.
  • Dry cell batteries. Seal them in a see-through plastic resealable (zip-top) bag
  • Antifreeze. Place it in a see-through plastic jug with a tight-fitting cap.
  • Used cooking oil. Put it in the same container it came in originally or a clean see-through plastic jug with a tight-fitting cap. You can place up to two gallons in your box.

Please be sure that any jug containing a liquid contains only that liquid; do not mix recyclable liquids together in the same jug or put any other liquid in a jug.

For a complete guide to recycling, take a look at our searchable disposal guide! Just enter the item you need to get rid of and find out if it belongs in the recycling, trash, or yard debris cart.
